Who is that stylish woman with the bleach blonde hair and a Starbucks cup who stepped out with Kanye West in Calabasas today?
Is it a colorful assistant who loves tights in a really bold print? Or perhaps a publicist who dares to wear something more outgoing than Yeezy himself? Not quite. It’s actually Lotta Volkova, the longtime stylist for Vetements and Balenciaga. Volkova, who is Russian and well-known for her good-taste-bad-taste wardrobe, was spotted with the rapper turned designer while wearing an oversize mint green blazer with a red button-up (the peek of a knit yellow turtleneck underneath), a bronze-hued miniskirt, the aforementioned tights, and a pair of scuffed white sneakers. In a very Balenciaga-Vetements style, she also sported tiny white-framed sunglasses. As for Yeezy, he went the pared-back athleisure route (his signature aesthetic) in a white sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and a newly dyed haircut that resembled a rainbow snow cone. So what was the creative duo up to? Maybe Volkova will be working on the next season of West’s Yeezy collection, or maybe she was just offering him personal styling tips. Who knows! The possibilities are endless. Nonetheless, their meet-up may signify something big to come. After all, it is public knowledge that West has long been a fan of Vetements, a brand that Volkova has been involved with since its inception. West is also a huge admirer of Demna Gvasalia, the creative director of Balenciaga and Vetements. In fact, almost two years ago in February 2016, West tweeted the simple statement: “I’m going to steal Demna from Balenciaga.” In other words, although Volkova carried a cup of Starbucks, this was probably more than just a coffee meeting.
